Turning 21 is quite the milestone birthday. On 7 September 2013, Classic FM celebrates 21 years of broadcasting - but what had the great composers achieved by this age?
Young Handel was forbidden from studying music, as his father wanted him to become a lawyer. Despite this, by the age of 21, he'd already premiered two operas, Almira and Nero, and made his mark on the world of church music, including a wealth of cantatas, motets, and psalm settings. There's even record of some early instrumental concertos, including an oboe concerto written around 1704.
