Our British composers of the past 400 years have so much to offer that we couldn't include it all, but here's a selection of some of the top songs and orchestral music that make us proud.
Delius composed some great British choral music, of which Mass of Life is just one example. It’s not really a religious Mass: it’s a setting of Nietzsche’s text from Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but the complex text and vast orchestra combine to create a British masterwork – even if the words are in German.
