Rossini's opera is rich under Rizzi

Rossini's La Cenerentola is a fine mix of operatic comedy and technical marvels

The early 1990s were a great time for Rossini's Cenerentola recordings: Berganza’s was reissued at bargain price, Bartoli’s came out in 1992, and this version with Jennifer Larmore came out in 1994. For many this was the clear first choice. Larmore is a technical marvel with a fabulously rich sound, Alessandro Corbelli’s comic gifts are brilliantly showcased as Don Magnifico and Raúl Giménez is a heavenly Ramiro. With ensembles that go like a rocket and excellent accompanying, it’s a joy.
