This pianist is playing happy songs in minor keys and it’s making us emotional

Happy Birthday in a minor key is the perfect soundtrack for when no one shows up to your party.

Lord Vinheteiro is a bipolar pianist from Brazil. On his YouTube channel, he says: "sometimes I'm sad and depressive but sometimes I'm happy. For this reason I decided to show you how I play the piano."

Using music as a means to communicate and convey how his bipolar makes him feel, Vinherteiro has created some videos of sad versions of happy songs, and vice versa - and they are amazingly emotional, upsetting, depressing, haunting yet beautiful all at the same time. Sometimes even funny.

It's amazing how taking well-known upbeat songs and playing them a touch slower and in a minor key can completely change their entire character. Listen out for Frère Jacques, Happy Birthday, Jingle Bells, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Chopsticks Waltz all played like you've never heard them before.

And if you're feeling a bit down after watching this video, why not listen to a happy version of Beethoven's typically moody Moonlight Sonata?
