Greater Gwent Youth String Ensemble at the Schools Prom

It's the final day of the Music For Youth Schools Prom, and Classic FM's Tim Lihoreau has been backstage at the Royal Albert Hall chatting to the performers of tonight's concert. Here he meets the Greater Gwent Youth String Ensemble.

The Greater Gwent String Ensemble consists of pupils from the Greater Gwent four unitary authorities.

The string orchestra is for the most part based on the string section of the Youth Orchestra. The group enjoys performing a wide range of repertoire from all eras and have given peformances most recently of works by Shostakovich, Elgar, Gorecki, Leifs, and Mahler. The group has been fortunate to have played in Poland as part of the Greater Gwent Youth Orchestra Tour.

Classic FM's Tim Lihoreau caught up with the talented string ensemble before their performance at the Schools Prom.
