Experience Elgar’s choral masterpiece, performed by the Royal Choral Society and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, in the beautiful setting of Winchester Cathedral.

Join the Royal Choral Society for Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at Winchester Cathedral on Saturday 30 May 2015, 7.30pm.

Is The Dream of Gerontius the best piece of English choral music ever written? Make your mind up at a live performance in Winchester Cathedral.

Regarded as Sir Edward Elgar’s finest choral work - perhaps his masterpiece - The Dream of Gerontius dramatically imagines the final thoughts of a dying believer and his soul’s journey to face his maker.

The text from John Henry Newman’s poignant poem is perfectly matched by Elgar’s profoundly beautiful music, and the composer recognised its power. 'This is the best of me,' he wrote on his score.

The Royal Choral Society has sung this magnificent piece many times during its 142-year history, including with Elgar himself conducting, and the performance in Winchester Cathedral with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Cooke, with a trio of outstanding soloists, will be a highlight of every music-lover’s calendar.
