Mastermind behind the Opera Awards, Harry Hyman, shared the inspiration behind the project, and why it's so important to encourage up-and-coming stars from across the genre.

Despite the sheer amount of talent on the opera stage, and the dedicated following from a huge number of fans of the genre, there is no award ceremony to celebrate the stars of the show - from the singers, to conductors, set designers, and philanthropists. Luckily, Harry Hyman, in collaboration with Opera Magazine, has created The Operas: the International Opera Awards, designed to celebrate the genre and its many contributors.

It's not just about recognising the same old singers, though. In this interview with Anne-Marie Minhall, Harry reveals just how favourable the responses have been from musicians and opera fans, as well as sharing the importance of nurturing the newest on and off stage talent:  "This is an opportunity for people who want to support opera to give something back and to support the development of talent," he said.
