Steven Osborne wins Instrumental Gramophone Award 2013

Pianist Steven Osborne takes the Instrumental prize at the prestigious 2013 Gramophone Awards.

The Scottish pianist Steven Osborne has won the Instrumental category at the 2013 Gramophone Awards.

He was honoured for his album of Russian piano music, which includes Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and works by Prokofiev.

Osborne received his award at a star-studded ceremony held at LSO St. Luke's in London.

His win comes four years after he won a Gramophone Award for his recording of the Benjamin Britten Piano Concerto.

Speaking backstage at the Awards to Classic FM's Jamie Crick, Osborne enthused about his emerging love of jazz improvisation. 'It was a revelation to me when I started improvising,' he said. 'I find it enormously freeing.'
