The Songs That Went To War

Composer John Tams, Barry Coop and the Erebus Ensemble will take you through a celebration of some of the most iconic and unexpected war songs from Britain.

Out of the First World War came a huge range of war songs, some well-known still to people today, and some long since forgotten. In this very special concert, you'll get to experience the whole lot.

Continuing the night's theme of Music in the Shadow of War, composer John Tams and Barry Coop will lend an expert opinion on the works of the era, while the Erebus Ensemble will provide the most atmospheric of performances, singing Herbert Howells' War Requiem in its original, unaccompanied setting.

Tuesday 29th July
21:00
Bristol Old Vic Theatre

Running order to include:

- Popular marching songs from 1914
- Examples of rural songs from the South Western folk tradition collected by Cecil Sharpe and others
- "The Battle of Mons" and other new songs by John Tams
- Howell's Requiem
