John Williams has won the Classic BRIT Award for Composer of the year, his second at this year's awards.

Film composer John Williams has scored a second Classic BRIT Award, winning the Composer category as well as the previously announced Lifetime Achievement Award.

Williams was given the award for his film scores for Steven Spielberg's War Horse and Tintin movies, and will be given a musical tribute at the climax of tonight's London award ceremony.

Alison Balsom was on hand to present the award in Williams' absence. In a video message, Williams commented: "It's especially gratifying to receive this award from the country of its [War Horse's] origin."
