Tchaikovsky/Mendelssohn Violin Concertos: Arabella Steinbacher

Classic FM Album of the Week, 8 June 2015, after 10am

Two of the greatest concertos in the violin repertoire are performed here by one of today's most exciting violinists.

This vigorous recording of the Tchaikovsky and the Mendelssohn concertos shows off violinist Arabella Steinbacher on superb form, solidly supported by conductor Charles Dutoit at the helm of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Steinbacher says she waited a long time to find the right collaborators for these concertos and it seems to have been well worth the wait. Her performance is confident, immediate and dazzling; Dutoit's marshalling of the accompaniment is rhythmic and decisive.

Recorded in September 2014 in the magnificent Victoria Hall, Geneva, it's all captured in vibrant, pin-sharp sound.
