Impressive Schumann playing from French pianist Le Sage. There’s rich romanticism, a feverish élan, tension and superb creation of different atmospheres (his inspired timing in The Prophet Bird of Waldszenen gives the piece mystery) and a gloriously imaginative range. His sense of pace is unerring, the phrasing Lieder-like; and his legatos and pianissimos bring out the tender and vulnerable moments.
