Beautiful playing of Schumann

It’s good to see Leon McCawley back in the recording studio at last with a collection of Schumann that is clearly close to his heart

This lively, intelligent British pianist’s most appealing qualities here are his unfailing lyricism, singing tone, lightness of touch and sense of élan (crucial to so much Schumann). Perhaps here and there he needs a little more sense of Schumann’s excessive imagination and incipient derangement, but it’s delightful playing nonetheless.
