John's CD of the week: Alessio Bax: Rachmaninov

The Italian pianist Alessio Bax won the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2000 – and since then, he’s performed across the globe with some of the world’s finest orchestras.

For his new CD, though, there’s not an orchestra in sight, as Bax focuses on Rachmaninov’s famous Preludes as well as music which the composer transcribed for the piano.

So, we get transcriptions of some of Rachmaninov’s own songs (Lilacs and Daisies, for example), as well as his arrangements of music by Mussorgsky and Kreisler.

Join John Suchet every morning this week as he features music from this, our CD of the Week.
