Mozart: Opera Arias and Overtures/Scottish Chamber Orchestra

Classic FM Album of the Week, 1 June 2015, after 10am

This sparkling recording features the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Christian Baldini conducting a personal selection of arias from six of Mozart's well-loved operas, alongside their respective overtures.

The soprano Elizabeth Watts, winner of the 2006 Kathleen Ferrier prize, is the featured soprano and she brings character and depth of understanding to her performance.

But it's the Scottish Chamber Orchestra's affinity with Mozart's music which shines through, as they conjure up a perfect eighteenth-century sensibility in the overtures, and lend solid support to the arias.

The conductor's love of Mozart is evident as he tackles repertoire that is clearly close to his heart, giving the Scottish Chamber Orchestra another worthy addition to their already award-winning discography.
