Peter Maxwell Davies - Piano Works 1949-2009

Virtually the entire solo piano repertoire of the current Master of the Queen's Music. Album of the Weekend, 10-11 August 2013.

On this brand new album, Richard Casey performs virtually the entire solo piano repertoire of the current Master of the Queen’s Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, stretching over a remarkable six decades.

The collection features premiere recordings of pieces including the early 'Parade', written by the composer when he was just 15. The 2-CD set ends with a substantial discussion between the pianist and the composer.

Spanning 60 years, the music clearly shows Sir Peter's musical development from early forays into the avant-garde through to more recent, melodic versions of Scottish folk tunes.

Sir Peter himself has described Casey’s performances of his music as 'magnificent'. They certainly give his fascinating music the care and attention they deserve.
