As a legacy, this album confirms Sir Colin Davis' brilliance as a conductor of Haydn.

The recordings on this new album, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra under the late Sir Colin Davis, were made in 2011 and feature the famous London Symphonies by Joseph Haydn alongside his Oxford Symphony.  

Haydn conceived his innovative late symphonies on a large scale, and they surpassed even his own normal high standards and were an enormous success.

All of these symphonies' expressive strength and rigour, their invention and mastery of form, are laid bare in these revelatory performances which confirm for all time Sir Colin's reputation as a pre-eminent interpreter of Haydn's music. He doesn't hold back and relishes the warmth of Haydn's sound world.
