Haydn's brilliant Scottish fling

A delightful collection of 27 of the 200 Scottish folksongs Haydn wrote that is brimming with character and vigour

Haydn Scottish Songs, Vol.1

Rating: 4/5
Genre: Chamber

Haydn arranged more than 200 Scottish folksongs (for voice, piano, violin and cello) for the Edinburgh publisher George Thomson. This disc presents 27 of them, ranging from mournful ballads to bawdy comic numbers. Anderson and MacDougall adopt a cornucopia of accents and throw themselves into the characterisation with vigour. Occasional slips in tuning and accuracy aren’t enough to dampen the energy of this delightful recital. Brilliant.
