Nordic Spring

A brand new album featuring a fine collection of string music from Scandinavia. Album of the Week, 1 July 2013.

This beautiful new recording is a collection of some of the finest works for string orchestra by composers from the Scandinavian region. The tracks include popular pieces by Grieg, Nielsen, Svendsen, Sibelius and Atterberg, as well as Edvard Bræin's highly melodic Serenade for viola and orchestra, here receiving its world premiere recording.

Comprised of Norway's finest instrumentalists, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra has established itself as one of the foremost chamber orchestras on the international scene. Violinist Terje Tønnesen is at the helm on this recording and is also a soloist in two of the pieces, as is the distinguished viola player, Lars Anders Tomter.

Listen out particularly for one of the most famous works in the Scandinavian string genre, Grieg's Holberg Suite. And Kurt Atterberg's Suite for violin, viola and string orchestra is notable for its transcendent beauty and passion.
