A beautiful and spacious treatment of two fine composers.

The young British violinist Charlie Siem offers an attractive programme that’s convincingly thought through and beautifully delivered. Pairing Elgar and Grieg, he draws attention to the parallels between their aesthetic approaches and their national significance in their native countries. Only 22, Siem performs with a wonderful tone and is supported in this recording not only by a super pianist but also by fine technicians. His accounts are spacious and beautiful, but here and there could do with a little more fire to bring them fully to life.
