CD of the week: Lise de la Salle - Chopin

31 August: CD of the Week is pianist Lise de la Salle's Chopin disc, not released until 13th September.

Chopin was, without doubt, a child prodigy. At the age of seven he'd composed his first polonaise; for the rest of his childhood his musical output was prolific; and by the time he was 19, Chopin was writing his Piano Concerto No.2. It was actually composed before Piano Concerto No.1, but published afterwards, hence the slight confusion with the numbers!

On this new album, the young French pianist Lise de la Salle enchants with her performance of the concerto, for which she's joined by Staatskapelle Dresden and their conductor Fabio Luisi.

This disc - one of many to be released in the composer's 200th anniversary year - also features Chopin's masterful Ballades for solo piano.

Tuesday to Friday, just after 10am, for music from this, our CD of the Week.
