The pianist Eldar Nebolsin is definitely a name to watch. His recording of the Liszt piano concertos with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Vasily Petrenko was universally praised by the critics – and for his latest disc, he’s joining in the celebrations for Chopin’s bicentenary year.

The main work on the disc is the First Piano Concerto, a piece dominated by the brilliant piano part that the teenage performer-composer wrote to showcase his extraordinary virtuosity.

Also featured here are the rarely performed Fantasy on Polish Airs and Krakowiak: Grand Rondeau de Concert, both of which are vehicles for Romantic reverie and bravura which pay tribute to the music of the composer’s homeland.

Eldar Nebolsin is joined by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Antoni Wit; just after 10am, for music from this, our CD of the Week.
