John Cage's 100th birthday marked across the world

Avant-garde composer of 4'33" John Cage would've been 100 years old today and events marking the occasion are taking place all over the world.

The 100th birthday of famed avant-garde composer John Cage would have been today. To mark the occasion, various events are taking place across the world to honour the composer of the experimental classic 4'33".

The Sage, Gateshead will be hosting a theatrical even entitled 'A Dinner Party With John Cage', which is to include 'opera, folksong, wine glasses, chopsticks, politics and gibberish', while East London venue The Macbeth is will be holding a special concert of Cage works tomorrow.

The East London concert, hosted by the Nonclassical club night, will feature innovative performances of key Cage works, including the famous 4'33".

Elsewhere, concerts and celebrations are happening in New York, Seattle and LA, while Berlin will play host to several pieces in their annual music festival. Cage died 20 years previously, just days before premiering new works for a celebration of his work in the German capital.
