The brilliant young Canadian violinist tackles Beethoven's great concerto. John Suchet's Album of the Week, 14 October 2013.
In August 2012, the Canadian violinist Alexandre de Costa recorded the Beethoven Violin Concerto in concert with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and conductor Johannes Wildner.
Shortly afterwards they recorded the work together and this album partners that recording with Beethoven's Symphony No.7.
Da Costa's performance is an accomplished one, filled with his trademark personality and sensitivity, and the symphony's power and authority is reinforced by this confident performance.
