Leopold Stokowski (1882-1977) was among the most influential conductors of the last century. There is hardly a Stokowski recording that isn’t utterly compelling. These six superb-sounding discs include five symphonies by Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms, works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Borodin and Wagner, plus Stokowski’s own ‘Symphonic Synthesis’ of themes from Mussorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov.
