Symphony No.8 in G major Opus 88 Antonin Dvorak
Charles Mackerras leads Portugese pianist Artur Pizarro and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra tackle Beethoven's incredible piano concertos
Beethoven's piano concertos are some of the most popular works in the classical repertoire - and on this new CD, conductor Charles Mackerras leads Portugese pianist Artur Pizarro and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in a truly memorable performance of these great works.
Beethoven's final three piano concertos are important in terms of history, too. Through them, Beethoven makes the transition from the Classical to Romantic periods, challenging previous ideas of what was acceptable and replacing delicate features with powerful, rousing, and even heroic melodies.
Originally, this CD was only meant to contain two concertos - but after the recordings of Nos. 3 and 4 went so well, they decided to add another!
