Having a top flight opera company on your doorstep is always very handy - being able to sit in on rehearsals and see how the professionals develop their characters is priceless.

That's the opportunity given to students on the Opera Performance course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The result was a very contemporary take on the Die Fledermaus story, presented at Cardiff’s Millennium Centre - home to the Welsh National Opera.

Director Martin Constantine was keen to put a new spin on the old story, and although the students shadowed the professional cast, the resulting production presents a unique experience. Bob Jones hears from some of the students…
