Classic FM Album of the Week, starting 11 January after 10am.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's annual concert at New Year is one of the world’s most famous classical music events, broadcast to more than 90 countries and attracting 40 million viewers.

And remarkably, each year, Sony manages to get the finished album of the concert into the shops within a matter of days. This year is no exception.

After conducting widely acclaimed New Years Concerts in 2006 and 2012, Mariss Jansons returns for the third time.

As is to be expected the concert predominately features music by members of the Strauss family; this year's concert features a few first performances at one of these events including Johann Strauss II's Polka française from Violetta, Edward Strauss's polka Außer Rand und Band ('Out of Bounds') and the delightful waltz España by Waldteurfel.

Two fixed points in the concert are always the Blue Danube Waltz and the Radetzky March and there's no doubt you'll be up and waltzing round the room, or clapping along. And that's the whole point.
