Steve Reich: ‘In my lifetime, classical music has never been so populated with talented people’

He's one of classical music’s most important composers - and on the eve of his 80th birthday, we got to ask him what he thinks about the state of classical music in 2016.
It's not every day you get to sit down and quiz one of the greatest living composers, but this week we got to do just that. American composer Steve Reich is in the UK for a unique performance of one of his most popular masterpieces, Different Trains.
We asked the minimalist maestro about what he thought about the current state of music - and here's what he had to say:

Tonight, Reich's Different Trains will be performed at Edge Hill in Liverpool, the oldest active passenger railway station in the world. For the first time in the composition’s 28-year history there will be a film accompaniment in the form of a newly commissioned work by Bill Morrison.
