Sir Neville Marriner and friends to play concert for Nepal

Sir Neville Marriner is to conduct past and present members of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, while Classic FM's John Suchet will speak, at a concert in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee Nepal Appeal.

Oboist Nicholas Daniel and violinist Kenneth Sillito will also perform at the concert, to be held on 28 May 2015 at St James's Church, Piccadilly. All performers are giving their time for free and all proceeds will go to the people of Nepal, who have recently suffered a series of devastating earthquakes.

Enrico Alvares, concert organiser and ex-ASMF violinist, said: "There are many anonymous, quietly and genuinely heroic people on the ground in Nepal, searching for missing people, solving basic and extremely unglamorous sanitation issues, rebuilding, saving lives in makeshift medical areas, and generally behaving like proper humans.

"If I didn't think what we're doing on 28 May really makes a difference to the Nepalese and their on-the-ground helpers from around the world, I wouldn't have donated my May.

"Give money to the DEC Nepal Fund by coming to the concert and enjoying exquisite music, or give the money directly to the DEC, or please just help in some other way.

"I may have organised this thing, but in truth it genuinely belongs to all those playing and listening on the night. It's our concert. Our effort to help thousands of people we don't know and will never meet. Join us."
