Sir John Eliot Gardiner on his 'stonking' choir

Gramophone Award winner Sir John Eliot Gardiner chats with Jamie Crick about his award-winning disc of Bach Motets.

Conductors don't come much more legendary than Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and when it comes to interpreting Bach - well, that legendary status is confirmed.

Unsurprisingly, Sir John Eliot Gardiner's disc of Bach Motets recorded with the Monteverdi Choir has scooped the Baroque Vocal award at this year's Gramophone Awards, and he spoke to Classic FM's Jamie Crick ahead of the ceremony.

Speaking about his beloved J.S. Bach, he commented: "You can't negotiate round him, he's the centre of the musical universe... it demands everything of singers."

"I'm thrilled by this particular award... the choir was on cracking, stonking form," said Sir John.
