Znaider marks Elgar Concerto's centenary

Nikolaj Znaider has recorded the Elgar Violin Concerto on the same instrument Fritz Kreisler played at its premiere in 1910.

The Dutch violinist will also perform a global concert tour with the violin and Concerto, culminating in a performance with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis at London’s Barbican on 10 November, exactly 100 years since the first performance. Other UK performances include two concerts with the Hallé and Sir Mark Elder at Bridgewater Hall in October.

Znaider has played the ‘Kreisler’ Guarnerius del Gesu violin, used by Kreisler at the Elgar Concerto premiere, for two and a half years. It is on extended loan to him by The Royal Danish Theatre.

The CD, to be released on RCA Red Seal in February, features Znaider with Sir Colin Davis and the Dresden Staatskapelle. Znaider was voted the World’s Best Violinist by Classic FM Magazine in July 2009 and records exclusively for RCA Red Seal.
