Nikolaj Znaider will make his London conducting debut with the London Symphony Orchestra on Sunday 30 October at the Barbican.
The Danish maestro and solo violinist will conduct the LSO through Wagner’s Overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Brahms’ Symphony No 4. He will also be joined by soloist Saleem Abboud Ashkar in a performance of Schumann’s Piano Concerto.
The concert follows Nikolaj Znaider conducting the LSO for the first time in Bucharest at the Enescu Festival in September this year. Prior to conducting, Nikolaj has previously enjoyed a close relationship with the orchestra for many years as a violinist, performing concertos and chamber music with LSO players as well as being heavily involved in various education and community projects with LSO Discovery.
Nikolaj Znaider has also been invited by Valery Gergiev to become Principal Guest Conductor of the Mariinsky Orchestra in St Petersburg where he will conduct a production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and a number of symphonic concerts. The 2011/12 season will also see Znaider becoming Artist in Residence with the Dresden Staatskapelle, which he will conduct as well as performing with as a soloist.
