Nicola Benedetti - Fantasie
For her latest album Nicola Benedetti has moved away from the concerti greats which have been the focus of her previous albums and chosen some virtuoso violin favourites.
The selection of music on this new disc ranges from the beautifully sublime to exhilarating showpieces.
There is the quiet, pensive Meditation by Massenet, Fauré's Après une Reve and the meditative Spiegel Im Spiegel by Pärt, all perfect relaxation tracks. These are alternated with lively, exciting pieces which demonstrate her technical virtuosity such as the gypsy influenced Zigeunerweisen Op.20 by Sarasate, Ravel's Tzigane and Saint-Saëns' Introduction and Rondo Capriccios .
This disc also includes new recordings of Classic FM favourites The Lark Ascending and Vocalise.
