Joe McElderry won the second series of Popstar to Operastar on ITV1 last night. The former winner of the X Factor battled it out with Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker for the title.
Last night’s show, hosted by Classic FM’s Myleene Klass, saw McElderry sing Gastaldon’s 'Musica Proibita' with mentor Rolando Villazón, a solo rendition of 'Nessun Dorma' and 'Funiculì, Funiculà', with Baker, Villazón and Katherine Jenkins.
Following unanimous praise from the judges and a public vote that eventually crowned him the series winner, McElderry promised that this wouldn’t be his last experience as an opera singer.
"My voice has been refreshed. For a singer and for me that is just so exciting”, he told Myleene.
“This is not the end of opera for me. I will definitely sing more opera and who knows, let’s see what happens.”
