Joanna MacGregor has been signed by Warner Classics & Jazz. The outstanding pianist will release three new recordings on the label in 2010 and her entire back catalogue will be reissued on CD, and for the first time digitally.
The first new release will be Live in Buenos Aires . It was recorded with the Britten Sinfonia in May 2007 and features music by Bach, Stravinsky and Piazzolla arr. MacGregor. JS Bach: Goldberg Variations, recorded in September 2007 at the Mozarteum, Salzburg and Messiaen 4 CD box set will follow. This last will include MacGregor’s acclaimed recordings of Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus, Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps, as well as a new recording of the song cycle Harawi with Dutch mezzo-soprano Charlotte Riedijk.
MacGregor strives to defy genre categorization in music, and she has worked with artists as diverse as jazz musician Moses Molelekwa, pop artist and tabla player Talvin Singh, Jin Xing's Contemporary Dance Theatre of Shanghai, Arabic singer Dhafer Youssef and producer Brian Eno, as well as leading mainstream classical musicians.
MacGregor’s recordings to date exemplify this variety and dedication to innovation. They have ranged from Baroque and Classical interpretations to forays into world, jazz and contemporary music. Stefan Bown, General Manager of Warner Classics & Jazz, comments on MacGregor's signing: ‘Her innovation as an artist and curator, coupled with her hugely diverse attitude towards music of all styles and genres, make her a fantastic addition to our roster and we are proud to provide a new home for Joanna and her music.’
MacGregor’s own record label, SoundCircus, which she started in 1998, will continue as an imprint of the Warner Classics and Jazz family. Live in Buenos Aires will be released on 8 February 2010.
