A whirlwind tour of Europe from light music specialists. Classic FM Drive Featured Album, 28 April 2014.
Iain Sutherland and his Concert Orchestra have proven that ‘light’ music can be taken seriously through their previous albums: The Merrymakers – 20 British Light Classics and Manhattan Playboys - 20 American Light Classics .
Now, on their new album, Europe has become the orchestra's playground as they embark on a grand tour of some of its most popular national musical styles, kicking off with Richard Rodney Bennett's swirling waltz from Murder on the Orient Express.
There's more classical content on this album than one would normally expect, including famous works by Albeniz, Delius, Satie, John Ireland, Dvorak and Monti - but they don't overshadow the delicious light music that this ensemble does so well, especially superb arrangements of Cockles and Mussels and Tea for Two .
