The CBSO's Chief Executive Stephen Maddock told Classic FM that the partnership will "demonstrate that classical music can be for everyone".

"We are very fortunate to be the only orchestra in the middle of the country, and so we serve a very large area."

"We are committed to sharing our music as widely as possible with the largest possible audience… hopefully we can demonstrate that classical music can be for everyone."

Classic FM will be recommending concerts throughout the CBSO's concert season, serving the Midlands with a huge variety of classical music.

Concerts will include Edward Gardner (as principal guest conductor) conducting Sibelius' Symphony No. 5 and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, as well as concerts focusing on music from the movies.

Maddock also shed some light on the orchestra's current high-profile job hire - the role of Musical Director is currently vacant - but he wouldn't be drawn on who it might be.

"We have several people that we are looking at actively… we've been doing lots of spying missions recently."
