Classic FM Session: Alisa Weilerstein plays Prokofiev - March

Watch the American cellist's brilliant live performance of Prokofiev's lighthearted piece.

Alisa Weilerstein takes on a piece of solo piano music in this wonderfully spiky performance, recorded live for Classic FM. It's taken from Prokofiev's piano piece, Music for Children, Op. 65. Starting with a simple march tune made up of two single notes, the music grows into a full-blown march as the cello fulfils the role of both hands of the piano, accompanying itself with chords and plucked notes that jump out of the texture. Watch how Alisa uses her left hand to pluck the strings while she's playing the tune with the bow.
